Artist Charles Long in Madison Square Park Spring 2012

Word is out by Gallerist that California sculptor Charles Long will exhibit a new work in Madison Square Park this coming Spring called Pet Sounds.Charles Long is known for abstract and amorphous sculpture made from interspersed non-traditional materials. You can see a selection of his work at Charles Long was also part of the Whitney’s 2008 and 1997 biennials.

The sculpture is part of the Madison Square Conservancy’s groundbreaking Madison Square Art public art program. Each season you will find thought-provoking sculptures, structures, video and audio art throughout the park by the most prominent artists in the world including Antony Gormley, Jim Campbell, Richard Deacon, Tadashi Kawamata, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, William Wegman, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Jaume Plensa, and Sol LeWitt.

Dutch artist Jacco Olivier’s stop animations to be featured in Madison Square Park in December

As part of the Madison Square Art program curated by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, Art Daily reports that Dutch artist Jacco Olivier will have 6 stop-animations on display throughout the park starting December 15th and running through March 12th, 2012. The animations are based on him painting and re-painting a single work and photographing it at various stages.

“Mad. Sq. Art is pleased to bring Jacco Olivier and his richly colorful work to Madison Square Park”, stated Debbie Landau, President of the Madison Square Park Conservancy. “The subtle yet engaging quality of his animations will infuse an appreciated energy into the Park during the winter months ahead, drawing connections between scenes of natural landscape in his beautiful, painterly animations and the natural life of the Park that so commonly lays hidden beneath the snow each winter.”

Kota Ezawa “City of Nature” video exhibit now in Madison Square Park

As part of the Madison Square Art program run by the Madison Square Park Conservancy, an installation is currently up on the south side of the park featuring video art from San Francisco artist Kota Ezawa. “City of Nature” is comprised of illustrations of scenes from nature set over video from popular movies.
