New hotel slated for NoMad on 30th Street

Another boutique hotel is slated for the NoMad neighborhood reports the Commercial Observer, this time at 16-18 East 30th Street (between 5th Avenue and Madison). The building at the location would likely be torn down and a new building could almost triple the current one in size according to the article.

The hotel boom in area started with the Ace Hotel (Broadway and 29th Street) and the MAve, followed by the Flatiron Hotel (Broadway and 26th Street) and the Nomad Hotel (Broadway and 28th Street). Others have had major redesigns, like the The Hotel Roger. And still other hotels are underway at 11-13 East 31st Street, 250 5th Avenue, and at 1205-1227 Broadway.

With their central location near Herald Square (and Times Square) and just above the beautiful Madison Square Park, it makes a lot of sense for the hoteliers to build in this forgotten area of the last 2 decades.

On the heels of the Ace Hotel, the Nomad Hotel, the Flatiron Hotel, the MAve Hotel and other hotels that have opened in the last few years just north of Madison Square Park, we now see a new proposed hotel to be located at 250 5th Avenue (on the corner of 28th Street). Basically the […]

President Obama at Nomad Hotel fundraiser tonight

It looked like they were setting up for a parade on 5th Avenue with all of the barricades up, but word is in that President Obama will be hosting a $40,000/person fundraiser tonight at the NoMad Restaurant in the NoMad Hotel (1170 Broadway at 28th Street). Celebrated Chef Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park opened the NoMad restaurant earlier this year.

Expect some potential traffic issues between about 4pm and 10pm this evening.

The Hotel Roger (131 Madison Avenue at 31st Street) re-launches today after a $12 million redesign under the leadership of John Flannigan, President of JRK Hotel Group. The hotel originally opened in 2004, but with the resurgence of boutique hotels in the Nomad area (Ace Hotel, Nomad Hotel, MAve Hotel, Flatiron Hotel), the property got a full upgrade. The key people involved in the re-design included “hospitality guru Steven Kamali (Capri, Thompson Hotels, Rushmeyers, Surf Lodge, Nobu, many more), designer Anna Busta (W South Beach), mixologist Johnny Swet (Jimmy, Hotel Griffou), and chef Julia Farias (Goat Town).”

One great feature of this hotel are the rooms with terraces. (Photo: above right)

They currently have a 15% off re-launch promotion (code is RELAUNCH) as well in case you have out of town guests coming to the city. Book at And here is the current menu and drinks menu.
