flatiron frontAnnounced prior to the existence of, but hard not to bring up nonetheless, in January it was revealed that Italy’s Sorgente Group had negotiated to “buy a majority stake in the Flatiron Building” with the aim of eventually turning it into an iconic hotel.

Currently a commercial office building, it seems the timeframe may be as long as 10 years to complete the last of the current tenant’s leases.

With Eataly going in at 200 Fifth, SD26 on the north side of Madison square Park and A Voce on the east side, there will be quite the new Italian influence on the historic park in the coming years.
